OSCM Zachary Williams enlisted in the Navy in August of 1986 and immediately reported to recruit training at RTC Orlando, FL. Following completion of recruit training, Williams reported to Operation Specialist “A” School at Fleet Combat Training Center Atlantic, Dam Neck, Virginia Beach, VA, and graduated in June of 1987.
In July 1987, Williams checked aboard USS Scott (DDG-995) home ported at Philadelphia, PA. During his tour he obtained Air Intercept Controller qualification and served there until March of 1992. Transferring to shore duty, he became an instructor at Naval Reserve Readiness Center, Philadelphia, PA., as a Command Indoctrination Instructor for drilling Reservists.
In April of 1995, Williams reported aboard PCU John C. Stennis (CVN-74) stationed at Newport News Ship Building. While stationed there, he earned his ESWS qualifications and conducted her maiden deployment. In September 1998, he transferred to the USS George Washington (CVN-73) stationed at Norfolk, VA and earned his EAWS qualification.
Williams transferred to Fleet Combat Training Center Atlantic Dam Neck, Virginia Beach, VA in October of 2000 for Instructor Duty. While serving at Dam Neck, he earned his MTS certification, designation as Combat Systems Senior Enlisted, as well as qualifying Air Intercept Controller Supervisor.
In October of 2003, Williams transferred to USS WASP (LHD 1) stationed at Naval Operation Base Norfolk, VA. While assigned to WASP he served as OI Division LCPO and OPS DEPT LCPO until January of 2008.
In January of 2008, Williams attended the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy and became a graduate of class 136. He reported to Afloat Training Group Norfolk where he served as the lead assessor for AW/ASUW while earning his Afloat Training Specialist certification and completed his AS degree in administrative management at Excelsior College. He transferred to USS GEORGE H.W. BUSH (CVN 77) in February of 2011 where he served as OPS DEPT LCPO until August of 2013.
Williams arrived at Transient Personnel Unit, Norfolk for his final tour of duty as the Discipline Officer. He also briefly served as interim Command Master Chief and the Material Officer Department Head. While onboard, he graduated from Excelsior College with honors, completing his B.S. degree from the school of liberal arts and was certified as a Naval Science Instructor. Williams’ awards and decorations include Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5 awards), Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards), Good Conduct Medal (8 awards), and a variety of unit awards. At his retirement ceremony, he was also presented with the Meritorious Service Medal.
Master Chief Williams resides in Chesapeake, VA., with his wife Denise, son Zachary and daughters Tierra and Zariah.
